1.     What is VTE

VTE is the study of technologies related skills, and knowledge relating to occupation in various sector of economic and social life.

1a. Philosophy & Values of Education.

-integration of individual into sound and effective citizen.

- respect for the work of the individual.

-faith in man’s ability to make rational decision.

-shared responsibility for the common good of the society.

-social cultural economic,scientific and technological progress.

1b. Objectives of vocational education In Nigeria according national policy on education.

·        A land full of bright opportunities for all citizen.

2.     Source funding of VTE programmes.

There two classification for source funding of VTE programs

i.                   External sources

ii.                 Internal sources

i.                   External source: it referes to source outside various institutions from various tiers of government like

(a)Education Trust Fund

(b)National science and technology fund.

(c)petroleum trust fund

(d) Aids from foreign countries and organization like UNICEF.

ii. Internal source: it refers to sources within various institution. These include:

(a)levies

(b)launching

(c)Donations

(d) Fees from sandwich

(e)remedial and consultancy services

(f)contribution from alumni association.

(g) Bussiness outlets.

CHARACTERISTICS AND FEATURES OF VTE.

·        A vocationaleducation programme must strive to meet the requisite market demends for labour.

·        Education and training should be given on actual job not just on similated and pseudo jobs.

·        The training environment should replicate the working environment itself

·        Vocational education curriculum contents should be generated by masters and successful practitioners of the occupation

·        Vocational and technical education should help the student to maximize their interest, abilitiiies, aptitiudes and potentials.

PROBLEM /CHALLENGES OF VTE IN NIGERIA.

·        Administrative and curriculum problems

·        Non involvement of vocational education practitioners in policy making and planning

·        Societal stigma

·        Lack of vocational guidance and counseling

·        Financial constraints

·        Government policy

·        Poor student motivation

·        Lack of effective entrepreneur education.

PROSPECT/ SOLUTIONS REMEDIES TO VTE PROBLEM  IN NIGERIA.

·        VTE practitioner should be involved in decision making

·        Unfavorable government policy toward vte should be abolished.

·        VTE practitioners should be encouraged to write good quality  text books  which are practical-based In their discipline

·        Effective vocational guidance and counseling should be mounted from the primary to the tertiary level of education.

·        VTE should receive government’s  attention both financially and otherwise.

·        Siwes and entrepreneurship programmes should be encouraged.
